HAVE MISPLACED MY NOTES ON THIS…don’t know when this will get finished!!
BUT, Pierce Atwood is in the process of moving this weekend and expects to be open for business again on Monday! According to Dennis Keeley, facilities manager for the firm, 175 attorneys and support staff are being moved into the historic 136 year old building, known as the former Cumberland Cold Storage building.
Moving vans were lined up outside its current location for the major part of the move which happens on Friday, 9/23. Some small retailers in the area were “saddened” about the move because this relocation of the largest law firm in Maine will undoubtedly have a negative impact on their businesses.
Last year the City Council gave a $2.8 million tax break to keep the law firm in the city rather than allow it to move near the airport in South Portland as it threatened to do; it stated that many of its clients are from out-of-state and this move would have been logistically to the law firm’s advantage.
The date for a grand opening has yet to be determined.
