The rainy day forecast kept some of the Monument(al) Square Market vendors from setting up shop today according to Rachael Harkness. Harkness, who is employed at the Portland Public Library directly across Congress Street, is on a Downtown Portland Committee working to come up with ways to energize Monument Square since the departure of the Farmers’ Market because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is uncertain if and when the highly popular Farmers’ Market will return to this spot. But certainly a busy and energized Monument Square is good for local businesses in the area.
This Maket is expected to be up and running this summer and probably through the fall. Chairs and tables are expected to be added sometime this summer.
