A 40-foot Red Spruce tree, currently located at one of Portland Housing Authority’s properties at 9 Boyd Street in Portland, was selected to be the 2025 Monument Square tree.  The city’s Forestry team is coordinating with Keeley Crane to harvest and install the tree on Wednesday, November 19 with a start time before 7:00 am.  The rain/inclement weather date is Thursday, November 20th.

“The Portland Housing Authority is honored to see this tree — rooted in one of our neighborhoods for decades — become part of Portland’s holiday season,” said Leah Bruns, Interim Executive Director of the Portland Housing Authority.  “For many years, this tree has simply been part of the place our residents and staff call home.  As we move forward with building new housing on this site, it needed to be removed and we’re glad it can continue to serve a purpose.  Sending it to Monument Square gives it a fitting next chapter, and we appreciate the opportunity to share a small piece of the place we call home with the wider community.”

Portland Downtown will have its Monument Square Tree Cam Presented by Hood Eggnog on for the day on Wednesdy to watch the tree arrival.  Then it will go dark until the annual tree lighting on November 28, when it will stay on until January 1st.  The tree lighting will take place on Friday, November 28, with festivities beginning at 4:00 pm   A free showing of the movie Elf begins at 4:30 pm.  The official lighting of the tree will occur at the conclusion of the 6:00 pm ceremony, featuring a live performane by Pine State Pitches.  The tree will be lit at approximately 6:30 pm.
