Congressman and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D), asked Republicans to end the chaos they have created in their third day of an unsuccessful effort to elect a US Speaker of the House of Representatives.  In an impromptu and brief press conference, Jeffries said that “at the end of the day, all we ask the Republicans to do is to get together so we can do the business of the government.”  Jeffries cited numerous issues that need to be addressed, but because of the chaos at the Capitol caused by extremists on the right, a House Speaker has not been selected. Kevin McCarthy (R) is the leading candidate for the position but has been unable to achieve the 218 votes to clinch the post he has sought for years. Extremist on the far right have proposed other names rather than McCarthy.  Rep. Gaetz (R) of Florida today nominated Donald Trump to be the Speaker.  The only vote Trump received was the Gaetz vote.

Meanwhile, on the eve of the second anniversary of the January 6th Rampage led by Donald Trump and his allies, a group of veterans wrote a letter to GOP leaders.  The letter asked them to condem the political violence that happened two years ago.  Leading that effort is Officer Michael Fanone.

Officer Michael Fanone is an officer with Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department who was seriously injured during the Capitol riot according to the January 6th Report prepared by the January 6 Committee. Officer Fanone has since become a contributor to CNN on law enforcement issues.

Congressman Kevin McCarthy (R) is now on an unprecedented loosing streak – having lost eleven votes in three days.  The House voted this evening to adjourn until noon tomorrow to vote for the next Speaker  of the House.  Ho Hum.
