Millet’s Bill for Paid Sick Leave Gets Augusta Public Hearing Tomorrow; 2/25/19

A bill sponsored by Senator Rebecca MIllett, (D-Cape Elizabeth) is to get a public hearing in Augusta on Monday February 25, 2019 – tomorrow morning. The bill, LD 369, is an Act in Support of Workplace…… Providing Earned Paid Sick Days to Certain Employees.” The public hearing will begin at 11:00 am in room 202, the Labor Hearing Room, of the Cross Building. The hearing is expected to last until 3:00 pm.

The launching of this bill took place originally at Longfellow Square. on Labor Day, September 4, 2017. The event was hosted by the Maine Women’s Lobby, Augusta and Eliza Townsend, executive director of the non-profit spoke at the event. Also in attendance was then AG Janet T. Mills. then a candidate for Governor. It was originally intended to be heard in Portland, but recently changed to the state legislature. “This is a women’s issue…because the people who serve us coffee, take care of our parents…are women,” said Eliza Townsend, executive director of the Women’s Women’s Lobby, Augusta based.
