Governor-elect Janet Mills announced today that she will nominate former Portland Police Chief Michael Sauschuck to serve as Commissioner of Public Safety and Randy Liberty Warden of the Maine State Prison to serve as Commissioner of the Department of Corrections.

Sauschuck served as Assistant City Manager since August of this year, and also served as Portland Chief of Police for six years. He’d been with the Portland Police Department since 1997. He graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a B.A. in criminology. Sauschuck was in the U.S. Marine Corps between 1988 – 1993 and served overseas. He is married to Mary who is a detective with the Portland Police Department.
NOTE: According to my sources, Sauschuck was not particularly liked inside the Department. Many are not disappointed that he has accepted a position in Augusta including this blogger. It is believed by many that the reason Mona Bector left her position with the City earlier this year, was because of Michael Sauschuck.
