A recent survey conducted by Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D) to which more than 10,300 people responded demonstrated that this bill is deeply unpopular in Maine:

81% strongly oppose the “One Big Beautiful Bill” – which changes taxes, food assistance and Medicaid policies; 86% say it is unaceptable because the Bill is expected to increase the national debt by about $3 trillion over he next 10 years; 80% reject the Bill’s addition of Medicaid, work requirements and more frequent eligibility verification, which could result in about 8 million people loosing Medicaid health insurance; 81% strongly oppose the nearly $200 bilkion in cuts from food assistance programs like SNAP to further tax breaks for wealthy individuals and large corporations.

“Mainers know this Bill puts workng families last and special interests first,” said Congresswoman Pingree.  ‘And while the headline provisions are bad enough, the fine print is just as recklesss.  Hidden inside are giveaways so absurd you’d think they werre satire —  like eliminadting taxes on gun silencers and setting aside funds to move a space shutter to Texas.”
