Maine is one of the 46 states that has been warned by the United States Postal Service that its November ballots might not count because of tight deadlines.  Trumpy has admitted he is blocking postal funding to stop mail-in votes – a move intended to hurt Democrats.  Mail in votes could make it easy for folks who don’t support Trumpy’s re-election to cast their ballots and is why he wants to defund the USPS.  For those who don’t want to go to polling stations because of the threat of the COVID-19 or for other similar reasons.  Some Democrats are calling this move by Trumpy another “assault on democracy.”

Secretary of State Dunlap is not issuing a formal statement at this time according to his office this afternoon.  But his office is “advising all voters to mail their ballots back to their clerk no later then 7 days prior to Election Day, or drop them off in person/via third party.

“We did not have significant issues with rejected ballots due to late mail in the July 14 primary and Secretary Dunlap does not have an acute concern about it at this time.  That said, he is monitoring the situation and working with the governor’s office to discuss all options to make the election as accessible as possible to Maine voters,” said Kristen Muszynski, of the Secretary’s office, in an email to mhn.com.  “All absentee ballots count as long as they are in possession of your town clerk no later than 8:00 pm on Election Day.”  It is expected that the number of absentee ballot voting will be huge because of fears of the COVID-19.  A large voting turnout is a threat to the re-election of Trumpy.

It’s being reported this afternoon that some states have already begun to change their rules – making ballots valid several days after Election Day, for example.  Some Democrats have already expressed concern about long lines at polling places and a shortage of poll workers as well.

The newly appointed Postmaster General Louis Dejoy, a donator to Trumpy’s, has installed cost-saving measures within the post office that have led to reported mail delays across the country – including in southern Maine.

Former President Barrack Obama issued a statement that Trumpy is trying to “suppress voters.  We’ve never seen anything like this before.  He’s trying to knee-cap the USPS and has admitted it.”
