The Maine Journalism Foundation announced this afternoon that an agreement for the purchase of most of Masthad Maine newpapers, currently owned by Reade Brower, has been reached. The announcement was from Bill Nemitz, Emily Barr and Bill Burke.
Late last week, the National Trust for Local News (NTLN) and Reade Brower, agreed on terms for the sale of Mastheaed Maine – 5 daily and 17 weekly newspapers across the state – to the NTLN. The purchase is expected to be finalized by the end of July.
This concludes a twelve week effort to acquire the monopoly of Reade Brower’s newspapers to a nonprofit news organization.
