Portland International Jetport Operational Update Issued This Evening

At 3:27 pm this afternoon the Portland International Jetport experienced a complete power outage due to a severe thunderstorm.  Power was restored at 9:07 pm.

The thunderstorm produced large hail and caused damage to two aircraft which mechanics are addressing.

During the power outage 34 flights experienced delays and 6 flights were cancelled.  The Jetport implemented its Tarmac Delay Program and moved passengers via shuttle buses from parking positions on the device pad to the terninal.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of the passengers on the delayed flights,” said Zach Sundquist, Assistant Airport Director.  “Our Tarmac Delay program was activated and our entire team responded to get passengers off of aircraft that could not access the terminal due to the power outage.”

Three cancelled flights will impact departures tomorrow morning.  Passengers are encouraged to check with their airlines for current flight status according to a press release issued from the Jetport late this eveing.
