If you are plannng on flying during the ongoing shutdown you should know that  the US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced on Wednesday, November 5 that starting today Friday, November 7, there will be limits on air traffic into 40 high volume markets.  In an Emergency Order issued on Thursday, November 6, 2025, the FAA rolled out a tiered reduction program requiring the following reductions:

4% by 6 am November 7; 6% by 6am November 11; 8% by 6am November 13; and 10% by 6am November 14.

Airlines are also required dto reduce flights seven days in advance on a rolling schedule.  The Portland Jeport has non-stop service to 15 markets that are included in the order.  Over the next two weeks the Jetport has 1,044 flights scheduled with 1,016 of those flights being to or from those 15 markets (97.32%).

“While the Jetport is not one of the 40 airports with a restriction implemented, 97% of our flights are going to or from restricted airports and we will certainly have flight delays and cancellations as this shutdown continues,” said Paul Bradbury, Airport Director.  “Each of our airline partners is revieweing their schedules and will be making optional decisions to meet the flight restrictions,” he continued in a press release issued last night.

“As of 8:00 pm on Thursday, November 6, 2025 airlines have proactively cancelled more than 840 flights nationwide on Friday and over 450 flights on Saturday.  No flights from PWM have been impacted though customers on connecting itineraries may be impacted.
