Fire Chief Jerome LaMoira Hugs His Father During the Ceremony

“It was a beautiful day in August.  August 8th actually. It was warm, sunny and 85 degrees and I was wearing flip-flops,” said Jerome LaMoira at his swearing in ceremony this afternoon at City Hall.  “It was the day that Maureen  and I decided to apply for this position in Portland.  I was enthusiastic about it and committed to it.  Despite the cold weather, I’m still enthusiastic and committed, LaMoira said as the crowd in the State of Maine Room broke out into laughter on this cold  day in the northeast.

Chief LaMoira was sworn in by city clerk Kathy Jones before a crowd of family, friends, fire fighters, and city officials.  Some of the city officials spoke including city manager Mark Rees and Mayor Michael Brennan.

His father, had the honor of pinning the badge on his son, Jerome. Following that, he told how his son had been a firefighter since he was two years old when he used to ride around with him. Jerome grew up in Vermont.  The couple has three adult children.
