The new Trader Joe’s, on 87 Marginal Way, Portland is scheduled to open on Friday, October 29th at 8 am. This word was received today from the California corporate headquarters via email. A unique ribbon cutting ceremony is planned.
Trader Joe’s has 340 stores in 25 states. Soon number 341 will be in Portland, Maine. The company began in 1958 as a chain of convenience stores in Southern California known as Pronto Markets. In 1967, Pronto Markets were converted to Trader Joe’s and became a chain of small, specialty cheese and wine shops. Over the past 40 years, Trader Joe’s has grown and evolved into a national chain of neighborhood grocery stores. The Portland store will be the largest of the chain. The company is lead by Dan Bane, Chairman & CEO.
MHN.com had recently announced it would open on October 28th, but that was corrected earlier today.
