On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at approximately 9:00 pm., the Lewiston Fire Department responded to a fire involving a wooden structure located at Veterans Park at 2 Main Street. Fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze and requested assistance from the Office of the State Fire Marshall to investigate the origin and cause of the fire. It was determined that the fire was set intentionally. The building which is city-owned and had no electrical power was valued at approximately $3,000.
Josh Kyle, 37, and homeless in Lewiston admitted to lighting a fire to a blanket inside the building, which led to the structure catching on fire.
Kyle was arrested and transported to the Androscoggin County Jail. The investigation is ongoing according to Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, for the Maine Department of Public Safety, Augusta.
