On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at approximately 9:30 pm, local firefighters responded to a fire that destroyed a log cabin at 461 Square Mile Road in Avon.

The homeowners were not home at the time of the fire and no one was injured.  Eleven dogs and four cats were inside the home.  Sadly, none of the aimals survived.  Investigators from the Office of State Fire Marshall were requested to respond to the scene.

Due to the extent of the damage, the cause of the fire couldl not be determined.  No additional information is available at this time according to Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, Maine Department of Public Safety, Augusta.
