“Herald Square,” a major development adjacent to city hall, received approval for its master plan from the city’s planning board earlier this week. The development includes almost 400 condominiums and a large hotel with retail space and parking. The proposal is by Reger Dasco Properties. Located at 385 Congress Street, it is on the site of the former prindting plant for the Portland Press Herald, hence the name Herald Square. Most recently, the building has been used for storage by the city of Portland.
The project would be built in phases and each phase will be reviewed by the city’s planning board. Initially, the emphasis will be on constructing a condominum, a hotel and parking. The third and final phase will include another condominium with added parking. It is expecdted take many years to complete the construction of this massive development.
Roger Dasco has built other projects in Portland in recent years. They include Hobson’s Landing, Bay House Condominiums and 113 Newbury Street.
