Hearts of Pine announced today that it is planning on building a soccer stadium at Cassidy Point – on Portland’s waterfront.  The property is situated on the Fore River.  It has been closed to the public for years because it has been primarily used for coal storage.

The club hopes to begin construction of this $50 million stadium next year with the stadium opening in 2029..  However, these dates depend on environmental reviews, permitting and approval from the city of Portland.  The proposal comes because the attendance at Hearts soccer games has exceeded its capacity at Fitzpatrick Stadium, where the team currently plays its games.  The new stadium will accommodate between 9,000 – 11,000 fans. “Fitzy” will remain where the Hearts continue to play its games  while the Cassidy Point property development is underway.

“This announcement is just the beginning of a conversation,” Hearts of Pine founder Gabe Hoffman-Johnson said.   “Cassidy Point presents us a once in a lifetime opportunity to build something lasting for the city of Portland and for the future of the sport here in Maine.”
