Vice Presient Kamala Harris exceeded expectations last night when she officially accepted the Democratic party’s nomination for the Presidency of the United States in a powerful 40 minute speech in prime time. She described her family origins, why Trump should not be re-elected and her agenda for her tenure as President of the United States, including an emphasis on our national security. The evening was interspersed with hope and joy – in sharp contrast to the gutter politics of the Trump campaign..
Her parents were immigrants from India and Jamaica. They were immersed in the civil rights movement in California whee they settled. Political activism and civic leadership were imprinted in Kamala from an early age by her intelligent parents. Her mother was a breast cancer researcher and her father was an economics professor at the prestigious Stanford University.
VP Harris addressed a myriad of topics in a succient way in her acceptance speech. this evening. She outlined her “Opportunity Economics,” a Plan to rebuild the middle class, a priority of hers, from which she comes – once again in contrast to Trump’s promise to reduce the taxes again of the wealthy in exchanage for their votes.
They are “out of their minds,” VP Harris said when describing the “Project 2025″ plan to further control women’s reproductive rights and to take away many other freedoms that are at risk. She said part of the Trump plan is to appoint a National Anti-abortion Coordinator to track and report miscarriages and abortions to a central office The capacity crowd responded in an especially loud and prolonged boooooooo to that Trump plan.. She reminded the crowd that Trump, the lier-in-chief, has threatened to abandon our allies all over the world as well as in Ukraine. Trump does not critisize autocrats like Putin because he wants to be one she told the Convention goers. ‘I will not cozy up to dictators like Trump does. He is easy to manipulate with flattery. I know where I stand and where the US belongs,” she said.
Former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta during the Obama administration told the Convention goers that “Veterans are not suckers and loosers”. as Trump has called them. “They are our heroes. The military is not charged with putting immigrants in camps and threatening Americans. When Harris takes the oath of office in January, we can dream, not just sleep.”
“Recently Trump said that as the Republican candidate for President, he is entitled to receive intelligence briefings,” said this blogger. “However, I do not need them because I know what’s going on.”
“Our opponents are out there denigrating the United States. Never let anyone tell you who you are. SHOW each other and the world who you are; the pride of being an American. Let’s get out there and vote. Let’s write the next chapter in the history of this greatest democracy in the history of this world/ Let’s get out there and vote for it,” she concluded her Democratic Convention acceptance speech..
“We won’t go back. We won’t go back,” “Do something, do something,” urged MIchaelle Obama in a powerful speech earlier in the week. She predicted that Trump is on the verge of learning that being president of the United States is one of those “Black jobs” he has accused immigrants of taking from the white population.
