This is one art show that this blogger hopes you will really make an effort to see.  Late last week the delightful exhibit of New York City painter Hunt Slonem opened at Moss Galleries, 100 Fore Street, Munjoy HIll.  The show runs through Saturday, October 22 – there’s plenty of time to get there – no excuses accepted.

Known for his paintings of birds, bunnies and butterflies (the three Bs) this exhibit features some paintings from each of those categories – for a total of 27 in the exhibit.  His paintings are inspired by nature and his 60 pet birds that occupy his studio.

Slonem was born in Kittery, Maine.  His father was a Naval officer which meant that the family moved often during his childhood.  That travel and exposure to tropical locations in particular would become an important influence in his paintings.  However, his most ambitious project has been his mission to save America’s often forgotten historic buildings in New York, Lousiana and Pennsylvania.

His works can be found in the permanent collection of 250 Museums world-wide.  These museums include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney, the Miro Foundation and the New Orl
