One small building at the corner of Middle and India Streets will be taken down this afternoon, and then the demolition of the former Jordan Meat Co. will be completed said Jeff Daigneault, project manager, for Opechee Construction Corp., this afternoon in his job trailer on the former Jordan Meat Co. property. Daigneault is responsible for the whole building process – he won’t leave until the Inn opens next spring.

At the corner of Middle and Franklin Streets, a geopier was pounding a hole in a debris cleared area. It was the beginning of a process to test piers that will be used to support the hotel. Eventually, there will be 267 such piers to support the hotel. The ground alone is not sufficient to support the hotel, which is typical in waterside locations, according to Daigneault.

The foundation work is expected to begin on June 14th and if all goes well, will be completed within 4 weeks. Then “lots” of steel for the building will arrive in mid-July. That should take about 4 or 5 weeks to put up.

Aware of city vehicles parked on Middle Street, Daigneault said that the city checks on parking in the area frequently during the day to make certain there are no problems. “If we close a street or a parking area, we pay the city for that lost revenue to them,” he said.

In order to control the dust, Opechee hoses down the property once a day.

The former meat company where the building for the new Hampton Inn is occurring was involved in a three alarm fire on May 6th. Please see post # 458 for more details on the fire.
