Grand Opening for Sebago Brewpub at New Hill Location Draws Praise; Official Opening 5/27

The opening of  the new Sebago Brewpub,  211 Fore Street, gives new energy and vitality to a  corner  of Munjoy Hill that for far too long had been ignored and left to deterioriate – creating a blighted section that left many wondering what would happen to the former Jordan’s meat packing factory that once employed so many in the area and WHEN  it would happen.

Yesterday afternoon that question was largely answered at a grand opening of the new Sebago Brewpub on that location.  And so no one will ever forget, just inside the pub on a large wall to the right is an original Jordan meat sign that was salvaged during the demolition of the building last year.  Owners hope that in time they will add more family pictures of the factory and the history of the building to the wall.  The dramatic transformation of this once blighted area into a welcoming Brewpub became official  yesterday afternoon.  

One of the guests sitting at the 22-seat cherry bar was Eddie Fitzpatrick, a partner at the nearby Pepperclub on Middle Street.  “The Hampton Inn is generally not a high-end hotel.  But this is  far superior to the Hilton which is practically an eye-sore,” he said.  “They have magnificant and expensive sidewalks, nice granite and a very welcoming  appearance.  I think it will help us (referring to the Pepperclub). ”  Fitzpatrick was impressed by the menu saying it was large for a Brewpub.  We have high regard for Sebago Brewing.  We are proud to carry their beer.”

The menu is huge – with a large number of offerngs under the appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, paste and from the brewhouse.   

The new Brewpub is the largest of the three – with seating for a total of 236 customers – including outdoor seating.  The inside has a stone fireplace as well as four big screen televisions throughout the light and attractive interior.  There is no on site parking for Brewpub customers.  

Also at the grand opening were Jean and Jeff Johnson, of Double Cross Vodka.  “I’m here to support my friends,” Jeff said referring to the three owners. Double Cross Vodka which is sold at Sebago is an “ultra-premium” vodka that sells retail for $34.99.

Sebago Brewing Co. has over 140 employees and sells 15,000 cases of beer a year.  It sells to businesses in Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Maine and is 12 years old.
