Graham Platner, candidate for US Senate in Maine, today authored an op-ed in the “Houston Chronicle”, titled “Soldiers are Dying in a War with Iran and Ted Cruz Jokes on Twitter.”
In this piece, Graham slams Senator Ted Cruz in his hometown newspaper for making jokes on Twitter about Marines who died. Graham also criticizes members of Congress who have spent the past week gleefully cheering as we send more young men and women overseas to die in a war. Comments from Platner follow:
“Senator Ted Cruz apparently thinks dead Americn service members are a punchline. Texas’ junior senator made that abundantly clear earlier this month when he once again did what he does best: make an absolute fool of himself on the internet. This time he did it by trying to crack a joke about American Marines dying in Iraq.
“Most of the politicans celebrating yet another conflict in the Middle East know nothing of the horror of war. They could not begin to imagine what it feels like when you hear another of your friends has been killed. They’ve never seen friends get ripped apart by high explosives.”
Graham lives in Sullivan with his wife, Amy, just three doors down from the house where he grew up.
