Governor Mills Orders Flags Lowered in Honor of Dolly Parton

Governor Janet Mills, consistent with a directive from the President, has directed that the US and State of Maine flags be lowered statewide beginning at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, August 25th for the week in Honor of Dolly Parton, who passed away on Tuesday at the age of 80.

“Dolly Parton was an American icon and pioneer of women in country music.  Her talents of singing and songwriting will never be forgotten, nor will her love of giving back to her community,” said Governor Mills.  “Dolly’s Imagination Library has donated hundreds of millions of free books to kids across the nation, including here in Maine.  Thank you Dolly.  We will always love you,!”

In 2003, Governor Mills joined Dolly Parton to launch a statewide expansion of the singer-songwriter’s namesake Imagintion Library book-gifting program.
