Governor Janet T. Mills (D-Maine) yesterday signed an executive order establishing a task force to examine the opportunities and implications of artificial intelligence (AI) for Maine’s people. economy and institutions.
The 21 member Task Force is in response to a rapid surge of technological advancements that are poised to revolutionize how people live and work. Nearly one-fifth of the US workfoce is classified as “highly exposed” to A!, making them particularly vulnerable to job transformation driven by advancements in A!. At the same time, A! has the potential to create new jobs and businesses, improve productivity and efficiency and reduce barriers to entry in some technical fields. The task force is charged with preparing policy recommendations that will position Maine to harness the benefits of A1 while minimiing risks for people and businesses.
The members of the task force are to prepare a report no later than October 31, 2025. Maine is among at least 26 states that have or are establishing a task force commission.
