Governor Janet T. Mills (D) announced this morning that she is closing all State of Maine offices for the full day today, Tuesday, December 19, 2023.  Previously State offices were scheduled to open at 12:00 pm today.

“With significant damage from yesterdays storm, including extreme power outages, road closures and flooding, I am closing State office buildings for the entirety of today,” said Governor Mils.  “My Administration remains in close contact with Maine’s county emergency management agencies and with our electric utilities.  We are expecting a multi-day recovery effort at this point, and, for now, we continue to strongly encourage people, especially those in more heavily impacted areas, to stay off the roads to give crews the space they need to clear debris and restore power as quckly as possible.”

“My husband David and I live in Cumberland,” said Samantha Miller this afternoon.  “Our power went out yesterday morning, but we have a generator.  But our internet is out.  So my husband who works remotely is using the internet at the Portland Country Club to do his work today,” said Samantha.  The couple is a member of the Portland Country Club in Falmouth.  Similarly, Skillins’ Greenhouses, on Route 88 in Falmouth,  lost its power yesterday as well.  But the popuar greenhouse was running on its own generator today.  However, as of early this afternoon its itnternet was down, complicating business transactions at a busy time of the year.  “There have been a number of trees down in the area,” said one employee as a possible explanation for the numerous power outages in the area.

  1. I do not think putting a call out to recall all Republicans is very constructive. It is a very unenlightened position, particularly from a periodical trying to report the news.

    • thank you for your opinion. Since no current office holding Republican, especially Collins, has the guts to stand up to the autocrat Trump I think a call for all office holding Republicans to be recalled is prudent. This is a blog – not a periodical – blogs are recognized for often carrying opinions and views – not just the news. Maybe you are not aware of that fact. Carol
