Governor Mills Asks Trump to Check his Rhetoric at the Door Before his Friday Trip to Maine

Governor Janet T. Mills at a COVID-19 Daily Briefing

Governor Mills described a telephone call this morning with the other Governors, Trump and AG Barr as ‘far different” from previous telephone calls.  Trump told the Governors to arrest protestors, prosecute them and put them in jail for ten years.  Additionally, Trump told the Governors to “dominate” protestors.

According to a statement by Governor Mills, Trump and Barr told the Governors they had “intelligence” linking the protestors to the “radical left,” and that they were the same troublemakers who led to the “Occupy Wall Street” movement. The two pledged to prosecute protestors under Federal laws.

Governor Mills asked two questions of  them:  She asked the Administration to share the “intelligence” they spoke of, so that she could determine if there was a risk to Maine people because it is her goal to keep Maine people safe. And she asked AG Barr what Federal law he intended to prosecute protestors under.

Neither question was answered.

The Governor told the President that based on the vitriol of his comments, she was concerned that his presence in Maine on Friday would create unrest.  HIs planned visit is to Puritan Medical Products, Guilford, one of a handful of makers of swabs used in testing for the COVID-19.

What the nation needs now is empathy, compassion, courage and understanding the Governor said.  The nation does not need hatred, more division, more animosity and distrust.  “We need leadership,” said Governor Mills.

The Governor asked Trump to “rise above the language” she heard in this morning’s telephone conversation.  “I asked that he check his rhetoric at the door and abandon the divisive words that sow seeds of distrust among our people,” she said.  Trump called the Governors of the fifty states “weak.”  It is not weak to call upon our “better angels of our nation,” she responded.

“It is not weak to seek racial justice in America a full 155 years after the end of the Civil War in which so many Maine people offered their lives to end slavery in this country,” said the Governor at the conclusion of her statement.

This evening Trump has threatened to send in the US military if Governors don’t squelch the protests.  He said this while holding up a Bible in front of a shuttered Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C.  However, wiser people have said he can not call in the military unless state’s request the military to come in.  Wiser people are stunned at Trump’s abuse of sacred symbols, like the Bible, to justify his race bating.  It has been reported previously in this blog that some believe the “Orange Menace” wants  a race war so he can move in with martial law – making him so powerful for his base.

It’s been reported on CNN news this evening, that Trumpy was embarrassed that his retreat to a bunker in the White House recently became public information. He has overreacted in this way to compensate for his perceived cowardice by hiding from protestors.   Help!  We are in deep “doo doo!”

MHN.com is asking:  “Where is Senator “No-Show” Collins (R) on the behavior of the “Orange Menace?  ByeBye Susan.”
