Tim Currier, Manager of Maine Hardware With Generators Currently in Stock. They Cost Between $900. to $1,150. Depending on Watt Wize.
“We got an emergency shipment of generators yesterday,” said Tim Currier, manager at Maine Hardware, 274 Saint John Street, Portland, this morning. Currier said that sales of generators have been unusally high recently. “We are expecting another shipment of generators any day now.”
People are coming to Portland from all over the state because their local hardware stores are out of generators due to the rain and wind storm on Monday. “I’ve talked to people from Wales, Poland, Hudson, Mechanic Falls and other places who are looking for a generator because of the power outage and there are not enough generators in their area to meet the demand. Our emergency shipments come from states all over the US that have been less impacted by the storm.”
Yesterday Governor Janet T. Mills (D) issued tips for Mainers facing extended power outages. The Governor stated that the CDC had received 16 reports of probable carbon monoxide (C) poisining resulting from eight separate incidents, all related to improper generator usage during this time of extended power outages. The 16 poisionings were not fatal, but all required emergency department visits the Governor said yesterday.
“While power restoration efforts are progressing, there are still many people across Maine withot power. If you are one of them, we want you to know there are important things you can do to keep your family safe,” said Governor Mills. “If you need a warm place to stay for the night emergency shelters are available. If you are using a generator or another source of heat, please be extra cautious and know the steps you can take to protect your family. With rising reports of carbon monoxide poisoining, we want Maine people to take every necessary precaution. Maine people should also be mindful of perishable foods in refrigerators that are not running. I urge folks to follow good safety precautions as our utilities work to restore power as quickly as possible.”
Is there room for a generator under your Christmas Tree this year?
