Giovanna Gray Lockhart Has Been Hired as the New Executive Director of the Frances Perkins Center, Damariscotta.

Giovanna Gray Lockhart has been hired as the Frances Perkins Center Executive Director it was announced today by the Board of Directors of the Center.

Lockhart’s predecessor MIchael Cheney led the effort to purchase the Frances Perkine Homestead and the extensive preservation efforts to make the hstoric treasure accessible to the public.  He will remain in a part-time capacity at the Homestead.

Lockhart is a 3 year resident of Yarmouth.  She formerly was an advisor to Senator Kristen Gilibrand of New York.  She sits on the Board of Trustees for the Wayneflete School in Portland.

“I have always been a huge admirer of France Perkins and consider her one of the most important women in our country’s history,” said Lockhart.  “I am honored to be taking the helm of the Frances Perkins Center at this particular moment to build on its many accomplishments and continue to elevate Frances Perkins to her rightful place in history.  I know well the power of the place to inspire and I hope to attract an ever-growing number of visitors to this Maine historical gem that shaped Perkins’ character and tell the story of a national heroine………”
