On Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at 8:43 am, emergency responders were sent to the Portland Fish Pier for the report of a person in the water. The subject was a 51-year old fisherman that fell from a fishing vessel as it was preparing to dock.
The crew from a US Coast Guard Ship that was docked on a nearby wharf witnessed the incident and launched a small rescue boat while other crew members ran to the rescue and tried to assist in the rescue from the dock.
The subject was pulled from the water by the rescue boat and taken to a nearby pier where paramedics tried o resuscitate him. He was transported to the Maine Medical Center where he died a short time later.
The cause of the death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The name of the victim and the name of the fishing vessel are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
