Just 18% of US adults say they’re comfortable going out to eat or going on vacation right now according to a just issued Morning Consult survey. Though the figures represent relatively small shares of the population, they are the activities that the public is most willing to engage in now as millions across the country shelter in place to prevent the spread of the novel coronoavirus.
Twenty- seven % of GOP adults would go out to eat today vs. 10% of Democrats. The Survey indicated that most Republicans said they were “very comfortable” re-entering a variety of public spaces, such as more threatening amusement parks and political rallies.
Governor Mills recently extended her stay at home order while introducing a gradual reopening of the Maine economy. Hair salons and barber shops are allowed to be open as of May 1. However, few chose to take that opportunity preferring to continue to prevent the spread of the feared virus by remaining closed.
Restaurants can open beginning on June 1st. For some large venues, opening up the venue may be more expensive to do that is warranted by the number of patrons expected to return initially. Business owners have expressed concern as to whether or not restaurant patrons will return initially or hold back and return on a more gradual basis. Wait and see if there is a spike in the disease, as some experts believe there will be.
