One of Numerous Signs at the NO KINGS DAY Rally Calling Out Collins for Doing Nothing to Stand up to Trump Polilcies.
The grand stand at Deering Oaks Park will be the final stop on Saturday, June 27, (4:30 pm – 5:00 pm) before this “Fast for GAZA” Caravan, – compromised of almost 40 fasting Mainers engaged in a 40-day hunger strike, – proceeds to its final destination arriving in New York City on Monday morning.
The “Fast for Gaza” Caravan will travel south from Lubec to New York City beginning Saturday morning and culminating at a Monday morning demonstration in New York City.
Before arriving in Portland in the afternoon, stops will be made in Ellsworth, Bucksport, Belfast, Camden, Damariscotta, and Brunswick to pick up fasters. Once in NYC, Mainers will meet up with a nationwide group coordinated by Veterans for Peace and Friends of Sabeel North America.
Fasters from around the country will convene to demonstrate outside the US Mission to the UN Monday morning at 9:30 am according to a press release issued by the Coalition for Palestine early this afternoon.
For 17 weeks, Israel has blocked almost all food, water and medicine, whlle continuing to bomb what’s left of the people, tents and hospitals in the beseixed enclave. The trickle of aid allowed in is primarily administered by the controversial GAZA Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a US Israel backed program run by paid merceranries. Doctors Without Borders has described GHF as “Slaughter Masquerading as Aid” as more than 500 people have been killed since the group’s operations began…..with witnesses reporting Israel troops shooting into gathered crowds nearly every day.”
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said: “People are being killed simply trying to feed themselves and their families. The search for food must never be a death sentence.” The UN and other aid groups have refused to cooperate with the GHF.
If you can. please stop by the grand stand at Deering Oaks Park to give this group a rousing send-off to New York City. They leave Portland on Sunday, June 29th for the demonstration Monday morning at the United Nations.
I was one of the Mainers fasting on June 27 (from Thursday 7 pm to Saturday 7 AM– just water). The Palestinian plight is on my mind all the time. I have contacted Senator Collins many times. Senator King only a few times because I know he understands (not enough, though). I join the protests in Damariscotta and Rockland ( just 2 of us, old ladies, last time with our signs, but we did it!).
I tried to catch sight of the Caravan on Saturday in Thomaston for support, However, I missed it, whether it was early or late?? I stood from 1:50 pm to a little after 2:30pm, with my flag and sign.. I wish I could have joined for a portion of the itinerary. Not easy for a senior person.
All I want to say is that I fully, wholeheartedly support this movement. Thank you all.
Anne-Marie Thank you so much for your commitment to this effort. You are an inspiration! Carol
