Vote No on 1 to Save Absentee Voting

“Wake Up Republicans!” You Too Could Lose Your right to Vote!  Is That What you voted For?  Political Affiliation is Not a Consideration Here!

VOTING MATTERS THIS YEAR!. AND EVERY YEAR!

EqualityMaine has gathered some information and tips to help you feel informed and prepared to cast your vote tomorrow, Tuesday, November 4th.  Voting is a critical right and EM hopes you will exercise your right to vote.  Now more than ever, our votes matter according to a press release issued late this afternoon.

Vote NO on 1:  This referendum question takes aim at Maine’s safe and secure voting system, including absentee voting.  If passed, it would make it harder for people across the state to vote — especially older folks, people with a disability, trans people and those without reliable transportation.  A No vote on 1 protects our current absentee voting system.  Everyone deserves the freedom to vote safely and securely in a way that works.

Vote YES on 2:  This question seeks to implement an extreme risk protection order law, or ERPO.  More than 20 states have one, and they are commonly referred to as red flag laws.  A Yes vote would allow families to go directly to a court when a loved one is in crisis and may be a danger to themselves or others and ask a judge to temporaily restrict their access to firearms.  Our current law gives family members, who are often the first to notice if a loved one is in crisis or danger, no way to take action themselves.  Passing an ERPO law could empower both families and law enforcement to go directly to a judge when they know someone with access to deadly weapons is in crisis.

Please do not sign the petition for a proposed ballot initiative called “An Act to Designate School Sports Participation and Facilities by Sex.”  This petition inspired by an outside national political agenda, seeks to codify discrimination against transgender students in interscholastic sports and in access to bathrooms and locker room facilities.  It would overturn decades of settled Maine law — law that has been tested in both the courts and in the legislature.  Ensuring there are no rollbacks of civil rights for LGMTQ+ youth is paramount to protecting the values of our state.  Your help is needed to protect students — and all people’s — right to safety, dignity, inclusion and respect at school and beyond.

“Hope you have seen that delightful tv ad from US Senate candidate Graham Platner advocating a NO on Question 1 as well.  Must have just missed Senator Susan Collins (R) tv ad with a similar message,” speculates this Left Wing Lunatic.  “Do you think she could have fallen in line with the agenda of President Trump to limit access to the ballot box for Maine voters?  That’s why her ad hasn’t been seen on tv?”
