“She will not be forced to Louisiana today.  And it’s all the direct result  of the  actions we have taken in the past 24 hours, Kelly Brennan, RN at MMC and MSNA Co-president, told a crowd of over 100 nurses who attended the emergency protest this morning on the Western Promenade in Portland.  Ms. Brennan was referring to Deborah Kapisha, a medical-surgical registered nurse employed at Maine Medical Center, who was kidnapped by ICE thugs late last month. She was scheduled to be removed to a detention center in Louisiana today.  A thundering roar of approval erupted from the crowd as it absorbed this unexpected good news from Ms. Brennan.

The disdain for MAGA member Susan Collins for her support of the “Big Beautiful Bill” that financed ICE activities such as this one was palpable throughout the crowd.   Although the incumbent Senator promotes herself as a moderate, her voting record says differently.  She has supported the Trump agenda over 90% of the time.   There is nothing “moderate” about supporting Justice Kavanaugh and 100  other anti-choice judges consistetly.  No respect was shown for Maine Medical Center who refused to come to the forefront in the efforts of its nurses to demand the release from ICE illegal and inhumane custody of Debora Kapisha.  That despite the fact that these nurses are employees of that massive institution.

Following this announcement, seven speakers were scheduled to address the crowd, including Wes Pelletier, Portland City Councilor, from District 2.  But given the good news, this blogger opted to leave the protest (and the warm summer sun)  in order to report on the good news; given the depth of interest in ICE’s illegal detention of Ms. Kapisha..

She was detained last month at Boston Logan International Airport by ICE thugs.
