An iconic “ale house” on the Portland waterfront will be reopening next spring according to Joe Christopher, business owner this afternoon. $3 Dewey’s, on Commercial Street, shut down suddenly in late July to the surprise of many.
$3 Dewey’s was begun by Alan D. Eames in 1980. He was a beer expert and became known as the “Indiana Jones of Beer.”
Christopher intends to honor the past with improved service, food and a wide array of beer selections. But the aura will remain the same. “I think it will be as successful or more than it has been in the past,” Christopher said.
He is still looking to hire staff for the reopening. Kitchen staff, servers and are tenders are needed. The website is not yet and running, but when it is please apply through it.
Christopher has an extensive background in the hospitality industry in Maine.
