You are invited to attend an opening reception at Cove Street Arts on Thursday, May 14, 2026 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. The reception will serve two purposes: One is to open Cove Street’s newest exhibition – “Fine Print,” It runs until June 27, 2026.
The other reason is to Honor Guest Photography Curator Bruce Brown and to recognize his significant contributions to the gallery over the past six years. .
According to a press release from Cove Street Arts, when the gallery was in the planning stages it “didn’t know many photographers. However, we did have access to one of the most treasured and beloved art resources in the State. Bruce Brown.” When he accepted their request to serve as its photography guest curator, gallery officials were “thrilled.” Last year, he told officials he wanted to wind down his curatorial role early this year. So, this upcoming reception next week, is an opportunity for all to show their gratitude for his work. The press release also announced that Bruce will be holding a show at the Portland Museum of Art next year. Cove Street Arts is located at 71 Cove Street.
The artists showing in the “Fine Print” exhibition include: Grace DeGennaro, David Driskell, Harold Garde, Tom Hall, Sean Alonzo Harris, Alison Hildreth, Hector Nevarez, Magana, Daniel Minter, Ashley Page, Miklos Pogany and Ellen Weitkamp. (Tom Hall is a good writer as well. This blogger enjoyed his book years ago about Munjoy Hill.)
This blogger had the good fortune to meet Bruce Brown back in July of 2020 when he was walking at Fish Point near the East End Beach on Munjoy Hill. He was visiting a newly installed “Gathering Stones” installation by Jesse Salisbury – whom he has known for many years.
