Cooper Flagg Drafted by Dallas Mavericks Tonight in First Round NBA Selection

Cooper Flagg, 18, of Newport, at the NBA 2025 Draft in Brooklyn, New York This Evening – Moments Before The Announcement of his Draft by the Dallas Mavericks was Made.

Cooper Flagg, with His Mother Kelly and Other Members of his Family Following the Announcement by  the Dallas Mavericks of his Selection as the First Round Pick in the NBA 2025 Draft Being Interviewed Following His Selection.

As expected Cooper Flagg, 18, of Newport, Maine was selected by the Dallas Mavericks  as the first round pick in the 2025 NBA draft just after 8:00 pm this evening. Flagg, who hails from a small town with a population of about 3,000 people near Bangor, was seated with his famly at a table as the announcement came.

His mother, Kelly, was a basketball player at the University of Maine in the late 90s.  She and her teammates made basketball history when they won the program’s first ever NCAA tournament game, upsetting Stanford University.

In an interview following the anouncement, Cooper said:  “This is a dream come true.  I would never have made it to this place without the support of my family and the people of Maine.”

He was featured in an in-depth article in “The New York Times” today.

Earlier today Governor Janet T. Mills designated today “Cooper Flagg Day” in recognition of his achievement, hard work, perserverance and sportsmanship.”

His mother said he’s a kind person who happens to be a basketball player.
