In preparation for the extreme heat forecasted for Saturday, July 20, 2019, the Portland Public Library, has agreed to serve as the city’s cooling center during its regular business hours (10:00 am – 5:00 pm).

The city urges people to take advantage of the Deering Oaks Ravine, the Kawanis Pool and the several splash pools around the city.

People are urged to limit outdoor activities, drink plenty of water and wear light color clothing.  We ask you to check on your elderly neighbors to make sure they are okay, and never lease children or pets in parked vehicles.

The city does have some air conditioning units at the Portland Expo and it will be providing a list of places guess can visit to fool off.

“We are welcoming everyone to cool off  Every day we offer a safe and welcoming environment for the community,” said Sarah Campbell, Director of the Portland Public Library this afternoon.
