Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D) to Convene Round Table on Republican Tax Plan Next Week.

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D) will convene a round table discussion regarding the Republican tax plan, HR 1, with affected local stakeholders next week.  The round table will happen on Monday, November 13th at 10:00 am in the State of Maine room, city hall, 389 Congress Street, Portland.

Under the Republican tax plan, millions of middle-class families – particularly those with children would see an immediate tax increase, averaging about $2,000.  In fact, a recent tax policy center report found that 38 million middle-class households would face a tax hike under the Republican tax plan.

The proposed tax plan that may be voted on as early as next week would harm middle-class families by:

eliminating medical expense deductions, dismantling the state and local tax deduction, eliminating student loan interest deductions and lifetime learning credits and  imposing new limits on mortgage interest deductions.

This is primarily a press event, but if anyone from the public wants to attend, they are welcome to do that.
