The public is invited to attend a concept presentation for the redesign of Congress Square on Thursday, December 15th from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm., at the Westin Hotel, Longfellow Room. A design concept presentation will be given by the design team Sarah Sze and WRT, who is responsible for the overall redesign of Congress Square Park.
Sze, a New York City artist, was selected by a subcommittee of the Portland Public Art Committee on August 22, 2016 to be the artist to design the concept. (Please visit post herein.) Her fee for this work is $75,000 and is being paid from the Portland Public Art Committee budget. WRT is a Philadelphia based company.
One of the identified challenges is to design a flexible space that accommodates a wide range of uses in the area at a busy and prominent intersection in the heart of downtown Portland. Your feedback is sought at this public meeting.
It’s anticipated that the clock mechanism from the forner Union Street will be relocated and the sunken aspect of the Park will be re-evaluated and addressed. What do you think?
