You are invited to attend a public meeting on Tuesday, August 13, from 6:00 pm – 8:15 pm at Rines Auditorium of the Portland Public Library, 5 Monument Square, to review and get input on alternative transportation operations and infrastructure concepts for Commercial Street. The meeting will be hosted by the city of Portland, MaineDot and PACTS. Jane Laffeur, representing WSP, Boston, will be making most of the presentation.
Three concepts will be presented at the meeting that include various combinations of strategies to address key goals the study team heard during the public outreach process – one was December 11, 2018 at the Portland Public Library. These key goals include improving motorist time and reliability; enhancing marine operations; and access to piers/wharves; improving multimodal access (bus, bicycle and pedestrian) along Commercial Street. Each concept is intended to illustrate the trade-offs and benefits of different approaches to achieving these goals to different goals. Strategies within each concept also vary ways to address safety, accommodating deliveries and on-street parking/curb-side management. It is anticipated that the final recommendations will include a combination of the best strategies from each concept.
The meeting will begin with an Open House from 6:00 – 6:30 pm to review exhibits and ask questions. Light refreshments will be provided. The main portio of the meeting will begin at 6:30 pm.
