“We want this coffee shop to be like a kitchen in someone’s home. We want it to be cozy and welcoming and for people to feel at home,” said Alba Zakja, of her soon to open coffee shop at 221 Cumberland Avenue, at the corner of Wilmot Street. Plans call for an opening early in January 2017 said Zakja, who co-owns the business with her husband Mateo Hodo, a local contractor. She has years of experience in the food/beverage industry.
The couple has succeeded beautifully in creating a welcoming neighborhood coffee shop. The tables and chairs are constructed of reclaimed wood located south of Portland. The counter tops are of granite also native to Maine. The walls are a warm mocha color with white, handsome light fixtures and other accessories. The coffee shop seats between 18 – 20 and take-out will be available.
The menu will consist of breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches and pastries baked in-house, fresh juices, smoothies and of course, lots and lots of different kinds of coffee. CoffeeMeUp will be open seven (7) days a week between 6:00 am – 6:00 pm.
