An application to rezone the property at 165 Washington Avenue by Jonathan Culley, of Redfern Properties, has been received by the city of Portland it was announced this morning.
This application is intended to facilitate a future development that would involve the construction of a 7 story building with 320 rental apartments, including 80 deed-restricted workforce housing units.
In the recent past, Culley has called this project “workforce housing” which is simply not true. What are the benefits for Culley to be gained from this mischaracterization? To improve his reputation as a housiing developer for the wealthy when the real need is elsewhere?
Apparently a new Director of the Planning Department replacing Christine Grimando has not been selected.
