The city has announced that non-union staff will have to be fully vaccinated by September 10. Union employees will have to comply once any bargaining has occurred. “We are hoping to move forward with that process as quickly as possible. Just like with any other city policy, termination will happen if someone is found to be in non-compliance,” according to a statement from Jessica Grondin, communications director for the city of Portland.
A majority of the city’s workforce is unionized. About 1,000 are union members and just under 300 are non-union. The rest are on call and seasonal staffs.
