Following the Parade, you can continue the celeration at the Open House at the Maine Heritage Center, 34 Gray Street, also in Portland.  There will be food trucks and local organizations, a bar, rummage sale and activities for children.  It may also be an opportunity to learn more about the city’s recent efforts to turn this non-profit and numerous others in the city into tax paying entities.  A threat from the city that could force some non-profits like this one to close its doors permanntly.

In a recent televised interview Eric Brown, of the Center said that it faces a $50,000. tax bill which could force its closure.
