Candidate Platner Shines on ‘Morning Joe’ Cable News Show This Morning

Graham Platner, oyster farmer from northern Maine, and a candidate to unseat Senator Susan Collins (R) was brieflly featured this morning on the ‘Morning Joe’ cable news show.  Just before 9:00 am., the recent launch of his campaign was replayed – complete with his commitment to abortion rights for women.  “Senator Collins is getting a big challenge from Platner,” said Joe Scarborough, co-host of the popular cable news.show.

Late last week, Platner appeared in a cameo performance on a late night cable news show.  Following that appearance, Senator Bernie Sanders endorsed Platner for the upcoming race against Senator Collins  – saying he looked forward to working with Graham in DC.  On Saturday, evening, Platner appeared with Senator Sanders at the  the Cross Insurance Center, Portland.  At that time, Sanders once against endorsed Graham Platner as well as Troy Jackson.  The latter, a resident of Allagash, was the president of the Maine Senate from 2018 – 2024 and has announced he’s running to replace Governor Janet T. Mills whose term is up next year.

As of today, Platner’s campaign said it has attracted 4,000 volunters and collected $46,000 in small dollar donations.

Meanwhle, Dan Kleban, a co-founder of the Maine Beer Co. in 2009, has announced his candidacy to unseat Senator Collins next year.  He wants to address the cost of living, make healthcare more affordable and supports abortion-rights of women.  He is critical of Collins for not standing up to President Trump.

However many  Mainers are watching to see whether Governor Janet T. Mills, 77. (D) decides to throw her considerable popularity into the crowded ring of those opposing Senator Collins.  She has said she will make her decision in November.  However, this blogger believes she made up her mind long ago not to run for this seat.
