Boyd Markley, Recommended to be Permanent Principal at East End Community School, by Xavier Botana.

Boyd Marley, currently the interim principal of East End Community School, should be appointed permanent principal as of July 2018 according to a press release issued today.  The Portland Board of Public Education will vote on the recommendation of the Portland Public Schools Superintendent Xavier Botana today, Tuesday, February 27.

Marley joined the Portland Public Schools in 2013 as assistant principal at East End Community School (“EECS”) and held that position until he became interim principal of the School this past fall.  Harley holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Maine in criminology and a master’s degree in education from the University of New England.  Marley also is a former state legislator who served in the Maine House of Representatives from 2000-2008.

Markel succeeds Marcia Gendron who resigned last fall.  She had served as principal at EECS since 2010.  Before that she was an administrator at Reiche Community School for ten years, serving as assistant principal and principal.  Gendron worked for the South Portland Schools before joining Portland Public Schools.

The School is located on a prime piece of property with a waterfront view of Casco Bay. Some tax payers of the area believed that the valuable property should have been reserved for development of high end housing or some other income producing money for the city, rather than a non-revenue producing public school.

(note:  Mr. Marley was confirmed by the Board of Public Education to be principal of East End Community School.)
