Bon Appetit magazine has just named Portland the “Restaurant City of 2018.” Although Andrew Knowlton admits a bias for the state of Maine, it’s reasonable that Portland should receive this highly coveted award.
“For starters, it’s the sheer number of outstanding openings – from a tiny pastry shop that serves knockout Roman pizza to a Jewish style deli that ranks up there with New York and Los Angeles’ best” that contributes to Portland receiving this honor. Knowlton sites a few of those contributing to this award including, but not limited to: Tandem Bakery, Morphos, The Shop at Island Creek Oysters, Minato, Ruski’s Tavern, Rose Foods, Little Giant, Portland Hunt & Alpine Club, Baharat and Mr. Tuna.
Knowlton admits he went to college here in Maine, got married here and often returns to the state for vacations. So, he knows whereof he speaks. He knows what we know. And now so many more people will as well!
Congratulations to Portlanders who made it possible to win this honor.
