Early this morning the body of fisherman George Manning, 66, was discovered under Custom House Wharf, Portland. He is the fisherman first reported missing yesterday by coworkers on the fishing vessel Northstar. The vessel had been docked at the end of Custom House Wharf and Manning was living aboard according to a press release issued by the city this morning.
His body was discovered by the Porland and South Portland Police Divers and the Harbor Master. The body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy and positive identification. No cause or manner of death has been established at this time.
Police are asking anyone who saw Mr. Manning in the past 48 hours to contact them at 207 – 874-8533.
