Robert McCoy, 35, has been arrested in the death of 4 year old Jasper Smith who died from a gunshot wound to his head on May 17, 2025 at 93 Pierce Street in Lewiston it was announced this afternoon.  McCoy, stepfather to Jasper, has been charged with Manslaughter and Endangering the Welfare of a child.  The child’s mother Mikayla Smith, 27, was also arrested on unrelated warrants.  Both were transported to the Androscoggin County Jail.

The child, Jasper Smith, was transported to Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston where he died. The investigation remains ongoing according to Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, for the Department of Public Safety, Augusta.
