Portland Police  responded to the area of Portland and Alder Streets  October 28, 2024 at 5:29 pm.  for a report of a shooting.  Upon arrival, Police discovered Edgar Cando, a 31 year old male from Portland who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Maine Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries according to a press release issued this morning by the Police Department.

Just over 3 hours later, 21 year old Omar Abd Elkader, of Portland, was arrested at the Portland Police Department. He was charged with murder and transported to the Cumbeerland County Jail.
